“My experience with Medical Records began in 1986 as a Treatment Counselor for children with Severe Emotional Disorders. Since then I have worked in a variety of roles in the Mental Health field including Supervisory and Director level positions. In 1998 I shifted my energies into the development, implementation, and support of Electronic Medical Records. With this background, I can report on many levels as to the value that I have seen TIER® add to organizations in general and client care in particular.
The benefits that result from a sound implementation of TIER® are many and varied but the most striking of them are those that result in better client care. Anyone considering this product should weigh in at least three general categories of improved care that it can bring.
The first of these is that an efficient TIER® record can result in a better use of staff time & energy. Many of the more tedious tasks necessary to ensure a coordinated treatment effort are simply no longer needed. Information can flow with ease from Assessment to Treatment Planning and from there to daily charting. Reports that took hours to develop in a paper system, roll out of TIER® at the click of a button. Routine documents can be generated automatically and updated as needed. All things that allow clinical staff to focus their energies on client care rather than information management.
The next noticeable improvement will be that a comprehensive TIER® record can provide critical information to clinicians looking to make decisions based on measurable care objectives. This is particularly significant in the field of Mental Healthcare where, for some very compelling reasons, we have become increasingly focused on data based decision-making. Clinicians will be able to easily access that data in "real time”, and factor it into their analysis and overall course of action.
Lastly, a well-planned TIER® record will enable organizations to analyze themselves and the clients they serve in a vastly more sophisticated way. It has always been the role of healthcare providers to respond to the needs of their communities and advocate for their clients on Local, State, and National levels. Historically, the only stakeholders with aggregate information on client profiles/ needs have been government organizations and a handful of private researchers, and even this information has been inconsistent. With the TIER® system, care providers will be able to generate, analyze and use information to demonstrate their own performance and the needs of their clients. This will, in turn, enable providers to advocate more forcefully for the clients they serve over the long term.”
